cagora.com

Clubs are quieter, hobbies went online, and most of us do not know who nearby shares ours. In reality...

More people share your interests than you think. Let's make them easy to find.

Cagora is short for Community Agora. In an ancient town the agora was the one place everybody went: to learn, to meet and to trade. This is that place for the things you are into, in your postcode and around the world.

Learn

Pick up the thing you have been meaning to try, from the people already doing it.

Meet

Find the others nearby, or anywhere, and turn up to something.

Trade

Swap, lend, sell, hire and give away, inside the community that wants it.

Why it feels this way

The group you would love is probably ten minutes away.

You would go to the thing if you knew it existed. The club has no website, the group is inside somebody's feed, and the noticeboard at the library is the only place it is written down.

Interests scatter the same way causes do. The people are there, the groups are there, and none of it is visible in one place you can search by what you are into and where you live.

Scaffold: final copy to come. Keep this to three short paragraphs and one line that lands.

The map

Interests, postcode by postcode.

The same map that powers Care Share Do, with the interest half switched on. Every person who joins shows what their area is into, and every council area gets its own page once ten locals are there.

Scaffold: map embed goes here, the same iframe pattern as caresharedo.org (/?embed=1&v=victoria), filtered to the interest list.

Always totals, never individuals. Below the threshold a page is not generated at all, so there are no empty pages with nobody on them.

What you can do here

Learn, meet and trade.

Learn

Start the thing you keep putting off.

Find the people who already do it, the class down the road, the online group at 9pm on a Tuesday. Nobody here expects you to be any good yet.

Meet

Turn up to something.

See who nearby shares the interest, which groups are running, and what is on this month. Or take a Quick Chat with somebody on the other side of the world who is into the same thing.

Trade

The marketplace inside the interest.

Tools, gear, seeds, lessons, spare tickets, a lift to the regatta. Buying and selling sits inside the community that wants it, not in a feed full of strangers.

More about Trade »

Learning brings you in. Meeting makes it real. Trading keeps it going.

How it adds up

From one person to a group that meets.

  1. Say what you are intoPick your interests, as broad or as specific as you like. You are shown at your postcode, never your street.
  2. See who else is thereThe count for your interest in your area, your region and the world.
  3. Find what is already runningClubs, groups and regular nights are listed under the interest, not scattered across the web.
  4. Start one if there is notA choir needs about twenty. Chess needs two. When there are enough of you, Cagora says so and helps you call it.
  5. Let it spreadRipple codes, posters and invitations carry it to the next town.
Scaffold: the minimum viable gathering numbers come from the category register (min_group).

One membership

Already on Care Share Do or Climateers? You are half way in.

Cagora, Care Share Do and Climateers share one login, one profile and one member record. Your profile has an interest half and a purpose half, and each site leads with its own half.

Opt in, both ways

Joining one does not put you on the others. Adding your interests to Cagora is a single opt in from your dashboard, and so is adding your causes from here.

No funnel

Learning, meeting and trading is a complete membership. A Cagora member is never nudged towards a cause.

Same place ladder

Global, continent, country, state, region, council area, postcode. One geography across the network.

Scaffold: wire the opt in to the shared member record. Decide the wording of the consent line with the privacy policy.

In more detail

Learn

Placeholder. Three short paragraphs on finding your way in: no standard to meet, no gear needed, the people already doing it are the course.

Meet

Placeholder. Three short paragraphs on local density, Quick Chats, and what happens when a town has enough people for a group.

Trade

Placeholder. Three short paragraphs on the marketplace: what may be listed, what may not, and how commercial listings are kept to the edges of the list rather than becoming a trade directory.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What does Cagora mean?

Community Agora. The agora was the open square at the centre of an ancient town, where people learned, met and traded. Cagora is the same idea for the things you are into, local and global at once.

How is this different from Care Share Do?

Care Share Do is for causes, which are about other people. Cagora is for interests, which are about you, your household and your friends. Same map, same login, two lists.

Is it really free?

Placeholder. Confirm the answer before launch.

Is this a social network?

No. There are no posts, feeds, followers or likes. The only way to meet somebody is a Quick Chat you have both agreed to.

My interest is not listed.

Type it in anyway. Words that enough people type become full interests with their own page.

I am already on Care Share Do.

Sign in with the same account and opt in to Cagora from your dashboard. Your causes stay where they are.

Who runs Cagora?

Placeholder, pending the parent company decision. Climateers Pty Ltd, a Melbourne based company, builds and runs it alongside Care Share Do and Climateers.
